Winslow Woman Told She Can't Get Tested For Coronavirus
The coronavirus continues to spread across Arizona and the nation, but not everyone who feels sick can get tested. Tera Miller of Winslow is one of these people.
The 35-year-old woman began feeling ill last week. She said it started with body aches and fatigue. Then came the fever, headaches, runny nose and a cough until finally she started having trouble breathing.
“None of this feels like a flu I’ve had before,” Miller said.
The 35-year-old went to the Little Colorado Medical Center hoping to get tested for coronavirus. She said she tested positive for two types of influenza but was told she couldn’t be tested for coronavirus because she didn’t come in with a fever. Miller said no one ever checked her temperature.
“I’m still sick, and I’m terrified to leave my home because I might hurt somebody and they won’t do anything about it,” Miller said.
The center did not return calls for comment. Its website asks people to only come in if they truly feel they need more supportive care than they can provide for themselves at home.
Miller lives alone and wishes she could visit her kids and grandma. Even though she doesn’t know if she has coronavirus, she’s keeping her distance right now to protect their health.
