The outbreak of coronavirus on the Navajo Nation has led to the area ranking 13th in the world for COVID-19 cases per thousand people, according to data from the New York Times.

As of Friday, Navajo County reported 43 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The county’s population is about 110,000 — which means they have an infection rate of 0.39 cases per 1,000 people.

For comparison, New York City has more than two cases per thousand, while the Phoenix area has about 0.03 cases per thousand.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez issued a stay-at-home order for residents of the Navajo Nation, but the order doesn't apply to Navajo County cities and towns like Winslow and Show Low, which aren't part of the Navajo Nation.
