At least three of Sonora’s 33 state legislators have committed to donate their salaries toward coronavirus relief efforts, including providing food and medicine to those in need.

"We're definitely going to donate all of our salary for food, for medicine, and for everything that might be needed in this moment of emergency in our country," said Carlos Naverrete, who represents Sonora’s 7th District, which includes Agua Prieta, Naco, Cananea and other cities on or near the Arizona border.

Navarrete said he hopes the crisis will pass quickly in Sonora and around the world. But until then, he’ll continue to use his salary to provide necessities to Sonoran families.

He called on other local, state and federal politicians to do the same, and asked Sonorans to do their part by staying home to prevent the spread of the virus.
