Phoenix Rescue Mission To Host Drive-Thru Easter Event
Every spring, hundreds of Arizona families come to the Phoenix Rescue Mission's annual Easter celebration. This year, the celebration will be limited to a drive-through experience for families to receive donated food.
In a normal year, children can hunt for Easter eggs or get their faces painted while the parents receive donated food and Easter baskets. But as job losses and unemployment claims shattered records in the previous weeks, the Mission's director of street outreach Nathan Smith says getting food into pantries is their top priority.
"This time we can’t do that, so we wanted to make sure that they at least still got the food," Smith said. "If there’s anything happening right now, there’s a major need for food that we haven’t seen before. And so we just felt like we had to make sure they still got the food that we planned on giving them that day.”
Participating families will receive boxes of food and Easter baskets in a drive-through line at Sullivan Elementary School in Phoenix.
