The City of Phoenix is making progress with its plans to make Phoenix a bicycle-friendly community. The latest section of road to be designated a bike lane is along 12th Street between Camelback and Indian School roads.

Joseph Perez is with the city and said there are studies showing people don’t want to drive like they used to.

"The data is showing that young people are not getting driver’s licenses as early as 16 years old as they used to," Perez said. "There is data that is out there suggests people want to live close to where they work. People want to live in urban area once again."

That stretch of 12th street is one of many immediate projects. Perez said the city’s “Bicycle Master Plan” contains several hundred other projects which will eventually create a more cohesive bicycle network.
