The Arizona State Supreme Court has proposed amending some rules regarding the five-member Independent Redistricting Commission.

Aaron Nash, Supreme Court communications director, says that the commission's rules were originally modeled after the judicial nomination commission rules. So when one got updated, the redistricting one needed to match.

One of the noted changes to the updated redistricting commission rules, would allow third parties to remain confidential if they wish to provide information on a candidate. Specifically, third parties can ask to keep their names, comments or both confidential.

More information on the petition, can be found on the Supreme Court's website at zcourts.gov/Rules-Forum/aft/1131. According to the website, “this matter shall be opened for public comment as to whether these amendments should be adopted permanently, with comments due July 1, 2020.”
