Maricopa County Sheriff's Office: Some Businesses Have Been Cited For Not Following Ducey's Executive Order
Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone said his deputies have been forced to issue citations to businesses that are not complying with Gov. Doug Ducey’s executive order to close all non-essential services.
At a press conference Thursday, Penzone said one of the businesses was a restaurant that had been contacted several times before the citation was issued.
“For the individuals who have refused to abide by the governor’s directives, it’s not just affecting you, it is affecting the quality of life of those who are putting their lives on the line," Penzone said, "and that is, quite frankly, just selfish and unacceptable.”
Penzone said 21 inmates are in medical observation, meaning they were exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and are being observed by medical staff. Zero inmates have tested positive.
One civilian employee, nine detention officers and one deputy have been tested, and those results are pending.
The sheriff said crime rates and calls for assistance were relatively static and had not changed significantly compared to the same time period in 2019.
