Across the country, Mexicans are being asked to stay home except for a handful of essential reasons.

All of Mexico’s 32 states have some form of a quedate en casa, or stay-home, policy to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. But some are doing a little better than others, according to presidential spokesman Jesús Ramírez Cuevas.

He said that Sonora is one of the top performers among 17 states that improved their performance in recent days, according to analysis of mobility data. Nearly three-quarters of the state’s population are remaining home.

But even in those states where there is less compliance, data presented during President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning briefing Wednesday show that a significant majority of their residents are complying with the measures.

Nearly all of the country’s municipalities have a stay-home measure in place, and more than half have decreased mobility, which is a goal of those policies.
