Plans To Adjourn Arizona Legislative Session On May 1 Are On Hold
Plans to adjourn the state legislative session on May 1 are on hold.
Republican leaders had previously agreed to close out the session on May 1 with the expectation of returning for a special session in the summer. Lawmakers adopted an emergency, skinny budget in March, but more may need to be done as the impact of COVID-19 becomes more clear.
Numerous bills did not get a vote before the Legislature adjourned temporarily. Lawmakers left with the intention of returning to finish their legislative business, and some members of the Republican majority are still pushing to do so.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, House Speaker Rusty Bowers says a substantive majority of his caucus wants to get back to their work at the Capitol.
And Senate President Karen Fann says the plan to adjourn is now on hold — at least until she hears from her own members.
