Several Phoenix-area media organizations are suing the state of Arizona over a lack of information from the Department of Health Services.

The suit claims DHS has refused to release certain information about coronavirus outbreaks in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

Attorneys representing the Arizona Republic, ABC15, 12 News, CBS 5 and 3 TV filed the public records suit Tuesday.

Those outlets want the state to identify the state-regulated assisted living centers and long-term care facilities where residents are becoming ill.

So far, DHS has only provided the number of facilities in each county where the virus has appeared. The agency claims anything more would be a breach of personal information.

Gov. Doug Ducey signed an order Monday requiring those facilities to at least notify residents and their families about an outbreak within 24 hours of confirmation.
