Taiwan Company To Build Semiconductor Factory In Arizona

A Taiwan-based maker of silicon chips plans to build an advanced semiconductor factory in Arizona, Gov. Doug Ducey announced Thursday night.
In a statement, Ducey said the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s project will create more than 1,600 new high-tech jobs in the state.
He also said the company’s total spending on the project including capital expenditure will be about $12 billion from 2021-29.
The facility will utilize TSMC’s 5-nanometer technology for semiconductor wafer fabrication and have the capacity to produce 20,000 wafers per month.
Construction is planned to begin next year with production targeted to start in 2024.
Ducey said several sites in Phoenix are being evaluated for the location of the factory, which will be TSMC’s second manufacturing operation in the United States.
