Arizona Bill Uses CARES Act Funds To Support Child Care
A bill sponsored by Rep. Michelle Udall would allocate a portion of federal funding given to Arizona during the pandemic to help child care facilities.
Udall (R-Mesa) wants to take $88 million of Arizona’s portion of the CARES Act to provide child care centers with forgivable loans.
Those dollars could be spent to help a facility reopen, stay open, and purchase cleaning supplies or personal protective equipment.
A small portion of the funds would allow the Arizona Department of Economic Security to waive the fees it usually charges when child care centers renew their licenses with the state.
The bill is expected to be voted on by the full House later this week. And representatives hope they can convince the Senate, which voted to end its session on May 8, to return to work to pass it as well.
