Attorney General Mark Brnovich has filed a lawsuit against Google for allegedly using deceptive tactics to gather location data.

It is not as easy as turning off location settings. The lawsuit claims that Google changes its privacy permissions without notifying users.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday following a two-year investigation after an Associated Press story showed that even when location tracking was turned off, locations were still monitored.

The attorney general says the use of location services has allowed the company to see how often ad clicks turn into in-store purchases.

“This is a big issue because it’s really about more than just Google. This is about the issue the fundamental issue of all of us being able to control our private lives and our private information.” Brnovich said. 

He added it’s hard for users to protect themselves due to the reportedly deceptive tactics used to opt out of location tracking.

He also said the company collects user data and stores it in a way that most users don’t understand.
