As the National Hockey League continues preparations to get players back on the ice, the Arizona Coyotes made off-the-ice news June 8. The organization announced the hiring of Xavier Gutierrez as the first Latino to be president of an NHL team.

The Coyotes have been progressive in reaching out to what would be considered non-traditional hockey fans in an effort to increase the sport’s popularity in Arizona. That includes expanding support of getting more girls to play hockey.

Lyndsey Fry, Arizona native and member of the U.S. women’s national ice hockey team, has been a leader of the effort. Fry talked with The Show about how much progress has been made in getting more girls and women playing hockey in Arizona.
