Phoenix Fire Department Warns About The Use Of At-Home Fireworks

The Phoenix Fire Department is warning Arizona residents about the dangers of using fireworks at home. As the July Fourth weekend begins, Capt. Rob McDade worries that more people will set off fireworks since COVID-19 and wildfire concerns have cancelled most public events.

He says fireworks that launch into the air or work like a projectile are illegal. But even the legal ones can be dangerous.

“It should all be stuff that is on the ground, sparklers, stuff that is not going to catch anything, hopefully, on fire if you’re in a safe place,” McDade said.

He says taking precautions like getting rid of any dry brush and having a hose or bucket of water ready is critical. And the stats back up the need for safety as 46% of all injuries are to hands and fingers from holding the fireworks.
