A new saliva test for COVID-19 is getting some traction in Arizona after a testing event this weekend for the new collection method.

Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute developed the test and got emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration. The test is supposed to be a lot more pleasant than the long cotton swab going into your nose.

Researchers say the results have high accuracy and results are usually available within 24 to 48 hours after the test.

However, one concern is that if a person comes in too soon after being infected, the test could miss the diagnosis because not enough of the virus has been generated yet.
