Arizona’s unemployment rate for June reported to be at 10%, according to the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity.

That’s a full point higher from the previous month. But Arizona seems to be weathering the pandemic-caused recession better than other parts of the country. The national unemployment rate for June was at 11.1%.

Doug Walls is the agency's research administrator.

"You can see pretty much in every single industry category Arizona has higher percentages of employment. And so, we just didn't fall as far," Walls said.

Arizona’s employment is 95% of what it was in February, while the national number sits at 90%.

More than 18,000 jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector were added in June, but that could take a hit when the July numbers are reported since the governor restricted dine-in restaurants’ capacity and shut down bars entirely.
