Gov. Doug Ducey said Thursday that he’s drowning out the noise from his critics.

That goes for naysayers from both sides of the aisle.

At his weekly press conference updating Arizonans on the state’s response to the coronavirus, Ducey was asked if the decisions he’s made were designed to protect his image.

The governor said there’s some people who will never be happy with his orders during the pandemic.

“I want you to know that there are two very loud lobbies out there. One is a lock-it-down lobby and they want to see everything locked down, and they weren't even happy when we had the stay-home order and we did not have rising cases,” Ducey said.

The governor has also endured criticism from within his own party, what Ducey called the “‘government's not going to tell me what to do’ lobby.”

“Very American thing to think and say — not during a pandemic,” Ducey said.
