Arizona's Aug. 4 primary is a little more than a week away, so those planning to vote by mail need to get their ballots in sooner rather than later.

"Voters should know that July the 29 — that’s Wednesday, July 29 — is the last day to put it in the mail," Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes said. "Now you can always return it to any vote center in person, that is through 7 p.m on election day."

So far, for this election, Fontes says the county is seeing strong early ballot returns.

“We’re off the charts on early ballot returns, I think given the circumstances that we’re facing and all the excitement out there, we’re seeing some pretty heavy volume, and we’re excited about the fact that this election is going very very well, and very very smoothly,”  Fontes said.

There are fifty early-voting centers across Maricopa County, where voters can return mail-in ballots or vote early, regardless of which precinct they live in. Fontes says his office will also open additional early-voting centers this upcoming week.

"We’ll be opening a bunch up in the middle of next week as well, so well into a week before election day, we’re going to have lots and lots of places for people to vote," he said.
