While other Arizona universities have readjust their plans for in-person classes, Arizona State University President Michael Crow is keeping to plans announced in June to hold a combination of in-person, hybrid and online classes in the fall semester, which starts Aug. 20. 

"Classrooms have received significant technology upgrades to accommodate learning through ASU Sync; faculty are being trained on best practices to support hybrid learning environments; appropriate distancing in classrooms and office spaces has been implemented; enhanced cleaning protocols will be adhered to; PPE, cleaning supplies and COVID-19 testing have been and will continue to be available for students and employees at no charge," Crow said in his Monday statement.  

While ASU hopes not to alter plans in the future, Crow said dramatic shifts with the virus could force operational changes.

Meanwhile Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon universities have said they would start their semesters with most or all of their classes in remote settings. University of Arizona is launching its in-person classes in stages, according to a statement to faculty and staff by the university's Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Liesl Folks. 

In the first stage, starting Aug. 24, only courses that are deemed essential or taking place in outdoor spaces will be held on campus. The university did not respond to an email asking when determinations of essential classes will be made by.
