The Arizona Board of Regents is working with the University of Arizona to expand its Global Campus Initiative, with the goal of expanding online education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes on the heels of UA’s purchase of an online university.

Ashford University, an online university whose assets were recently purchased by UA, has 35,000 students. UA’s current online presence is an estimated 5,000 students.

Ashford, formerly for-profit, will become the nonprofit University of Arizona Global Campus.

The expansion will allow the university to provide degrees to students all over the world. The Global Campus initiative includes 150 locations across 34 countries and an all-online program.

The university’s online school, UA Online, will continue to operate separately from Global Campus.
