Arizona Sen. Martha McSally appeared on the U.S. Senate floor briefly Tuesday morning to call for a reconsideration of her proposed seven-day extension of unemployment benefits.

McSally presented the same proposal last week until a broader package is negotiated by Congress.

“So here I am again, asking for a simple extension through the end of this week, so that Arizonans don’t see an eruption to these benefits as we work through our differences," said McSally.  "And again I ask: who could possibly be against this?”

Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon objected to the proposal saying short-term extensions don’t work, and state unemployment systems aren’t equipped to change benefits on a weekly basis.  He insisted a long-term package must be approved.
