Arizona State University began their modified move-in process on Wednesday, bringing more than 13,000 incoming and returning students to campus within the next two weeks.

It starts by allowing students from Maricopa County to move belongings into their dorms this week. Once local students bring their belongings into their dorms, they are required to leave the campus and return closer to the resumption of classes.

The second phase begins on Aug. 13, where non-Maricopa County residents will move into their dorms and immediately live on campus.

Allowing local residents to move in early reduces congestion and allows for social distancing to be enforced.

The university announced last week that all students moving into on-campus housing must test negative for COVID-19 before moving in. If a student tests positive, they cannot move into the building until they provide evidence of a negative test.

ASU’s first day of classes is Aug. 20.
