Vice President for Arizona State University Athletics Ray Anderson speaks Tuesday in a Pac-12 webinar about the decision to cancel sports competitions until after the new year.

The Pac-12 CEO Group on Tuesday opted to postpone sports competitions for fall and winter until the end of the calendar year.

The announcement was followed by a webinar that featured members of the group, including Ray Anderson, vice president for Arizona State University Athletics.

“All of us want to play sports, every student athlete. It’s not just football," he said. "There’s soccer and volleyball, cross country and wrestling and there are other sports who are preparing now who will be impacted by this decision.”

Anderson said science drove the decision-making process. “I do trust that our student athletes, our coaches and their families are confident we have done this with their interest in mind from day one and will continue to do so, led by the science and the medicine," he said.

The Pac-12 has left the decision to coaches and universities to determine how training for sports will continue.

The group is also making a case to the NCAA to ensure eligibility and schools to retain scholarships for student athletes.
