The city of Flagstaff will implement fire restrictions beginning Friday.

The fire ban covers Flagstaff city parks and private campgrounds.

The city wants to reduce the risk of fire during the COVID-19 pandemic and has banned campfires and charcoal.

Although the high country received some rain earlier this summer, high temperatures and dry conditions have returned.

"We want to make sure folks are really cognizant if they’re traveling through Flagstaff to make sure that, one less spark, one less wildfire, just checking your tow chains and make sure you’re not dragging anything," said Jerolyn Byrne, a spokeswoman with the Flagstaff Fire Department.

The ban also places restrictions on smoking and fireworks.
