Fire crews are trying to extinguish a blaze caused by a lightning strike in Fountain Hills during Thursday night’s storm.

Tiffany Davila with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the McDowell Mountain Regional Park is closed and the blaze already has consumed about 300 acres.

“We have been utilizing a helicopter this morning [Friday] to help with bucket work on the southwestern side of the fire,” she said. “That’s the side that’s still pretty active. The remainder of the fire has died down and that’s just thanks to the weather.”

Most of the Phoenix area received rainfall Thursday with Sky Harbor Airport recording nine tenths of an inch.
