New U.S. Consuls Arrive At Hermosillo, Nogales Consulates
U.S. consuls have been assigned to two posts in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, in recent days. Both posts were left open earlier this year after the previous consuls finished their terms.
Ken Roy is the new U.S. consul in the Sonoran capital Hermosillo. According to the State Department, Roy has been with the U.S. Foreign Service since 1999, and served in Argentina, Panama and Belize, among other posts.
Laura Biedebach, who will serve as consul in Nogales, has been with the State Department since 2002. She’s coming to the post after serving as deputy consul in Paris. She has also held posts in Tijuana, Guatemala and the Philippines.
U.S. Ambassador Christopher Landau welcomed the two consuls to Mexico this week on Twitter. Sonora's two consulates are among six of the United States’ nine consulates in Mexico to see a turnover in leadership this year.
