Arizona State University College Republicans is speaking out against another group on campus named College Republicans United. The latter group is raising money to help fund the legal defense of 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse who’s accused of killing two people and injuring another during a recent protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

ASU College Republicans President Joe Pitt says his organization has zero connection to College Republicans United. Pitt says his group has continually condemned its actions. He has called for an investigation of the club and says having a name so similar to their own is affecting ASU College Republicans.

“I just can’t imagine what our members are going through," said Pitt. "When their parents see this on the news they go, oh honey you’re a member of this club aren’t you. And they go no that’s the other group on campus.  So it’s certainly disappointing, it’s certainly doing harm to our image.”

Pitt also noted the other campus group has a reputation for seeking media attention. ASU released a statement saying it does not endorse or support the club, but there is no policy prohibiting student groups from raising funds.
