University of Arizona President Robert Robbins said he favors a return to play for Pac-12 sports.

The conference will vote Thursday on a proposal to resume play.

Three major conferences began football season as scheduled, but the Pac-12 and Big Ten chose to sit out. Both conferences recently had a change of heart and are expected to play.

Pac-12 football would begin in early November, and basketball would start later that month.

The proposal outlines frequent testing and strict protocols. Robbins says that professional teams gave colleges a road map for how to play sports safely.

“I’m pretty excited that we’re going to get to play basketball," Robbins said. "I think the NBA has done it really well, but they had a very controlled bubble. They tested every day.”

If approved, the Pac-12 football season will be limited to a conference-only, six-game season, with playoffs in late December.
