Arizona Commission On Judicial Performance Review Publishes 2020 Ratings
The Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review has published its official findings for the judges on the 2020 general election ballot.
Judicial performance review is part of Arizona’s Constitution, applying to judges who go through merit selection: all of the justices on the Supreme Court, Appeals Court judges and the Superior Court judges in four counties.
The courts where the judges work send out surveys to litigants and attorneys who practice in front of the judges, as well as witnesses, jurors and court staff.
Arizona Supreme Court communications director Aaron Nash says those surveys are then reviewed by the judicial performance review commission.
“The survey looks at legal ability, integrity, communication, temperament, and administrative performance,” he said.
Nash says the commission votes on whether judges meet or do not meet established standards, and those outcomes are published on the website azjudges.info and mailed out by the secretary of state.
Voters can use the information to decide whether or not to retain the judges on the November ballot.
