Some international flights will resume in the next two months at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

WestJet, Canada’s second-largest airline, will resume flights to Calgary three times a week starting Oct. 8.

American Airlines told KJZZ: “In an effort to match low international demand resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19), we are extending the suspension of service from PHX to London (LHR). We are hopeful demand will return in the spring and intend to resume service at the end of March.”

American said its business partner, British Airways, expects to resume nonstop service from Phoenix to London Heathrow Airport in November.

Condor Airlines flights to Frankfurt, Germany, remain suspended and Sky Harbor says Eurowings has temporarily delayed its launch of flights from Phoenix to Frankfurt, Germany.

Volaris has resumed twice-weekly service between Phoenix and Guadalajara. Hawaiian Airlines has no scheduled date to restart service to Honolulu.

Overall, passenger traffic for August was down 61.4% compared to August 2019. Southwest’s traffic was down 55% while American, Delta and United saw between 65 and 71%  fewer passengers.

Earlier this month, Phoenix Aviation Director Jim Bennett told KJZZ traffic will likely be down at least 50% through the end of the year. And it’s not expected to return to 2019 levels until 2023.
