Incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Tom O’Halleran debated his Republican challenger Tiffany Shedd on Thursday night on Arizona PBS.

Coronavirus spending and broadband internet access were some of the main topics.

O’Halleran said he and his colleagues have been trying to pass additional coronavirus relief for months.

“We put a bill together almost four months ago, a little over four months ago, and the head of the Senate, the majority leader said let’s take a pause. Let’s take a pause while more people die," he said.

But Shedd said there’s too much pork in that bill.

“I would vote for funding for helping our schools go back safely. I want funding for paycheck protection programs. You know, these are things that happen to people that they couldn’t control. But the problem with the bills Nancy Pelosi is putting forward is it’s got a bunch of pork in it," Shedd said.

The candidates, who are vying for Arizona's 1st Congressional District, also discussed police reform and climate change.
