The University of Arizona has canceled its spring break 2021. This adjustment is necessary to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the Tucson community and the nation by reducing travel by faculty, staff and students, said Liesl Folks, the university's senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, in an email.

UA is scheduling five Reading Days throughout the semester that will allow students and instructors to take breaks during the academic term since classes won't be held on those days. The Reading Days will take place on: 

• Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021
• Tuesday, March 9, 2021
• Wednesday, March 10, 2021
• Friday, April 2, 2021
• Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

The decision was made with support from the faculty senate and follows similar calls made at other institutions such as Purdue and Boston University, Folks said. So far, UA is the only public university in the state to take this action.
