Northern Arizona University has announced it's starting the first two weeks of its spring semester, which begins on Jan. 11, with online classes like it in fall semester, University President Rita Cheng announced Tuesday.

"By following this same strategy, we will continue to deliver on our national reputation for a quality education through multiple delivery options while helping mitigate the risk of COVID-19 to our community," she said. 

Faculty will reach out to a very small number of students whose classes require they start in-person on Jan. 11. 

Move-in dates for students living in the residence halls will be pushed back. Students will be required to schedule a time to return and must provide a negative result for a COVID-19 test completed within seven days prior to their return.

NAU is also eliminating its spring break. Instead, the semester will end on April 29, about a week earlier than originally planned.

University of Arizona announced it was canceling its spring break last week. The Tucson-based institution will instead offer five reading days.
