Smoke from the Horse Fire can be seen from Prescott on Oct. 15, 2020.

Firefighters are protecting the homes of Crown King in case the Horse Fire changes direction. Residents have evacuated as the fire has grown to more than 9,400 acres.

Prescott National Forest spokesperson Debbie Maneely says firefighters are trying to remove possible fuels or flammable materials.

“We have firefighters in the community right now. They’re creating some fire breaks, removing vegetation, doing field mitigation work, they’re setting up sprinklers in the area and around the homes," Maneely said.

Prescott, Black Canyon City, Lookout Mountain and surrounding communities are also at risk.

The fire is 32% contained as of Wednesday morning.
