Pima County Sheriff's Department Looks To Update Use-Of-Force Policies

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is revising its use-of-force policy as it’s been decades since the procedures have been updated.
Citing the killing of George Floyd, Pima County Sheriff Mark Napier said in a promotional video the new policy will meet new community expectations.
Kevin Adger with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in the same video, “Certain uses of force that include chemical agents, tasers and deadly force will be reviewed by the use of force committee. New to the committee are community members that are part of the Sheriff’s Community Advisory Council.”
According to a press release, "the revised policy defines when force is justified, available use-of-force options, and deadly force issues."
Defensive tactics coordinator Elliot Lyle said this includes a range of training, “from the presence of the officer and how they look and conduct themselves all the way up to the use of deadly force depending on the situation.”
The Sheriff’s Community Advisory Council and the department will also consider recommendations by 8cantwait—a campaign to end police violence in America.
