Scottsdale voters have chosen former City Councilman David Ortega as their new mayor.

Unofficial results published by the city late Tuesday showed more than a 9 point advantage over former City Councilwoman Lisa Borowski.

In an October debate sponsored by the Arizona Republic, Ortega told voters he was committed to improving communication with residents.

“The economic uncertainty that we’re experiencing today, is intensified by the fracture of communication at city hall. It shouldn’t take referendums and initiatives to get city hall to listen to you. I will listen," Ortega said.

The same unofficial results showed voters electing three new faces to the City Council: Tammy Caputi, Tom Durham, and Betty Janik.
