Maricopa County has almost finished counting its ballots, and nearly 80% of all eligible county voters participated this year.

County Supervisor Steve Chucri is pleased with how the election process turned out. He cites the new counting machines, and the new operations agreement, which shares responsibility of planning and holding elections with the recorder's office.

“As far as the new election’s protocol that we’ve taken under the board, as a group, as a board of supervisors, by taking back some of that statutory authority that we had given to the recorder’s office many decades ago, I think that has gone better than expected," Chucri said.

Chucri also says the board expects to meet next week to conduct a canvas of the election and certify the results.
