As the political season cools down, Arizona weather is heating up.

Phoenix-based National Weather Service meteorologist Mark O’Malley said temperatures will be warming across much of Arizona beginning this weekend and into next week. “By the beginning of next work week, we’ll be looking at high temperatures into the middle and upper 80s which for the middle of November is near record high territory.”

O’Malley said high pressure settling over much of the state is responsible for the high temperatures, and storms will be likely in Arizona’s high country.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Jaret Rogers says the high temperatures could break the record for the latest 90-degree day in Phoenix — currently Nov. 15, 1999.

“We’re expecting quite the warmup here into Monday and Tuesday, with high temperatures in the Phoenix area in the upper 80s, perhaps getting close to that 90-degree mark," Rogers said. "Records are going to be between 87 and 89 each day, our forecast is between 88 and 89 through Wednesday, so yeah, we’re going to be challenging those records each day."

Low temperatures in the Phoenix area will hover between the 50s and 60s. In the high country, temperatures will range from the upper 20s to the high 60s.
