The Valley has put triple-digit high temperatures in the rearview mirror for the year, but other communities are looking at the Phoenix area as they consider what’s in front of them. A new podcast episode from the University of California-Davis considers how the Sacramento area could start to look — and feel — a lot like the Valley in the next several decades.

It’s called 'Becoming Arizona,' and is based on a climate assessment done at the school, which found, among other things, that that region will feel a lot like Arizona between now and 2100.

The podcast and accompanying reporting looks at what the Sacramento area can learn from Phoenix about dealing with extreme heat.

Kat Kerlin is an environmental science writer at UC-Davis, and co-host for the "Unfold" podcast, which is where "Becoming Arizona" appears. The Show spoke with her for more about the podcast and how Northern California could transition to having Arizona's climate.
