Democrats have been making gains in Maricopa County over the past several years.

In 2016, for example, then-candidate Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton here by a little less than three points; Democrats also won the county sheriff and recorder offices.

Two years later, Kyrsten Sinema defeated Martha McSally by more than four points in Maricopa County. And, this year, Joe Biden beat President Donald Trump by around two points here, while Mark Kelly won over McSally by four points.

But, despite the success at the top of the ticket, Republicans maintained control over much of county government and other seats lower down the ballot.

Steven Slugocki, chair of the Maricopa County Democratic Party, spoked with The Show about the 2020 results.
