ADHS: Testing Negative For COVID This Week Doesn't Mean It's Safe To Travel Next Week

As coronavirus cases continue to surge in Arizona, the number of daily tests being administered is about to eclipse the number given during Arizona’s previous infection peak over the summer.

The Arizona Department of Health Services says nearly 26,000 diagnostic tests were administered on Thursday, and the state has processed more than 24,000 tests this week.

With less than a week until the Thanksgiving holiday, public health experts say a negative test now does not mean you’ll still be negative by Thanksgiving. Maricopa County Public Health Director Marcy Flanagan says if you plan to gather with family locally, take precautions.

“Meet outdoors, and keep people from different households at least six feet apart," Flanagan said. "Have each household bring their own food, or have one person serve food for everyone to reduce the number of individuals who are touching shared utensils.”

Arizona’s case positivity rate is around 10% — so 1 out of every 10 tests is coming back positive.
