Sports are returning to the Maricopa Community College District — for the spring semester.

The district will allow teams to practice and compete starting in January as long as they follow return to play guidelines.

The decision is based on recommendations by a committee formed after the district canceled all sports except cross country.

The committee consulted with trainers, public health officials and others over the last few months.

It also made recommendations on screening, travel and prevention strategies.
