The Balandra Star, a ship owned by the company Baja Ferries, will provide service several days a week between the Sonoran port of Guaymas and Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur. Along with substantial space for cargo, the ship will be able to carry 72 passengers, according to a state release.

Sonoran officials praised the new service as good economic news for both states.

Luis Núñez Noriega, head of tourism promotion in Sonora, said tourists won’t be the only beneficiaries. Industrial supply chains and the mining and agricultural industries also stand to benefit from the new connection between the states.
