In 2019 — in what’s become an increasingly rare bipartisan action — Congress passed the Great American Outdoors Act.
As part of that, the Land and Water Conservation Fund was provided with $900 million as part of annual budgeting. The passage of the act led President Donald Trump to compare himself to Teddy Roosevelt.
But recent moves by Interior Secretary David Bernhardt are being seen as roadblocks by a number of environmental groups — and labeled as inconsistent, considering what the Great American Outdoors Act was expected to lead to.
