When students in the Tolleson Union High School District begin their spring classes, they still won’t be sitting in a classroom. Online learning will continue until spring break in mid-March.

In a statement, district superintendent Nora Gutierrez said despite having no in-person learning this fall, many students and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

To date, 96 students and 108 staff members have contracted the virus. And 27 of those staff cases were reported in the last week. Therefore, classes will be taught virtually until at least Friday, March 12.

Gutierrez said the district and governing board do not take these decisions lightly, but added: “We feel this is the best decision for the long term health of our students and staff members.”
