More than 1,000 Grand Canyon University students graduated this Dec. 19, 2020. The university announced four initiatives to help students find jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This weekend, more than 1,000 students graduated from Grand Canyon University. These students are going to be entering the job market during a very difficult time, so the university is launching a four initiatives to help those don’t have a job lined up find opportunities during the pandemic.

The university has created 125 temporary, full-time positions that graduates can work while they look for a more permanent job opportunity, said University President Brian Mueller. The position will be mostly in operational support areas such as financial aid, tech support and tutoring.

"If you find something while you are working with us, you can just go," Mueller said. "If you don't you can work the entire four months and we'll continue to work with you and help you get something else."

GCU is also hoping help place grads at partner schools that are struggling to fill positions such as classroom assistants and long-term subs.

“Elementary schools and secondary schools are going to need people whether you have a secondary or elementary credential or not," Mueller said.

Another field that is in extremely high demand is nursing. Mueller suggested that graduates who are interested in nursing, but did not graduate with a nursing degree consider GCU's Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program that could lead to a job in the field in 16 month.

GCU is also offering to pass on grads' resumes onto the approximately 500 companies represented on its advisory board through its Strategic Employer Initiative.
