Intel will use solar power from a Salt River Project plant in Coolidge. The semiconductor manufacturer is one of several Valley companies to take advantage of a new program.

The plant is part of a project to help companies find renewable sources of energy. Schools and municipalities have taken advantage of the program, as well as companies such as Apple, Walmart and Boeing. But Intel is the largest company to take advantage of the program.

“Starting about, oh, a little over a couple of years ago, is when we recognized that a lot of our larger customers had their own sustainability initiatives and they needed help with that. And so we started reaching out in different ways,” said Jim Pratt, a spokesman for SRP.

SRP hopes to reduce carbon emissions by 60% by 2035.
