On Sunday, the Navajo Nation reported 122 new COVID-19 cases and 10 more deaths. President Jonathan Nez urged residents to remain vigilant, especially through the holidays, and the tribe implemented another emergency order that takes effect Monday.

The latest emergency order from the tribe extends a stay-at-home lockdown through at least Jan. 11. The lockdown provides exceptions for things such as going to work or obtaining food or medicine, but Nez urged families to avoid large gatherings for the holidays.

The latest order also reinstates 57-hour lockdowns for the next two weekends. It also requires all residents to wear masks in public and avoid gathering with individuals outside of their immediate household.

Nez says the situation remains dire throughout the country, but the safety measures the tribe has implemented have been effective.
