With nearly 7,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the state Sunday, the COVID -19 mutation originally found in the U.K. is not yet confirmed in Arizona. This mutation seems to make the virus more easily transmittable. State Department of Health Services director, Dr. Cara Christ, says they’re on the lookout.

She says they’re following the best course of action.

“I think that making sure that we have adequate testing and resources, and then trying to get as many Arizonans vaccinated. We are watching to see what those variants cause," Christ said.

Christ also says so far, there’s no indication the variant impacts the effectiveness of the vaccine. She says that this and other virus mutations are typical and were expected.
